Rena Imager XT 3.0 printer problem with head height bouncing up and down when adjusting head height

Published: May 28, 2020

Problem: We have a Rena Imager XT 3.0 that is having problems with the head height. Instead of going right to the height you set when going to print, it bounces up and down; sometimes, it will settle down to the correct height, but usually, I have to push on the gear. I’ve seen a similar problem before, and I “think” the problem is caused by a bad potentiometer that is used to sense the head height. The gear isn’t missing any teeth or anything, just pushing on it seems to fix it at times.
The problem has been going on for a while now but is getting worse. When it first happened, a tap was enough to get it to settle, but now I really have to work it. I’ve attached a pic and video to show what I’m talking about. Let me know if you have any questions, would love to get this resolved ASAP.

Solution: The majority of the time, the problem is the potentiometer next to the head height motor that will need to be replaced.  It’s not hard to replace but making the “Carriage Assembly Timing Adjustment” can be difficult and should be left to a trained technician.

You can find the part you need to order below by the printer model number.
