Description
About the FD 87HDS-R
The Formax FD 87HDS-R is a hard drive shredder with a built-in recording system: internal and external cameras monitor and document every drive’s destruction, storing barcode images and recorded video on an included 64GB SD card (roughly 1GB per hour of video). When auditors or clients want proof, you hand them footage, not a signed form.
Destruction performance matches its sibling: 3.5 in HDDs are reduced to pieces 1.6 in and smaller, and 2.5 in HDD and SSD drives to pieces 0.19 in and smaller. Two cutting chambers with safety shields and resettable LED counters support continuous operation, hardened solid steel blades and a chain-driven AC-geared motor supply the muscle, and door and bin-full sensors plus Auto Reverse and Auto Stop protect the operator. The all-metal cabinet rides on casters.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does it do to the drives themselves?
It destroys 3.5 in HDDs into pieces 1.6 in and smaller, and 2.5 in HDD/SSD drives into pieces 0.19 in and smaller.
Can it run continuously?
Yes — two cutting chambers with safety shields and resettable LED counters are designed for continuous operation.
How does the FD 87HDS-R compare to the FD 87HDS and the FD 87HD?
The FD 87HDS-R matches the FD 87HDS exactly on destruction — H-4, 1.6 in for 3.5 in HDDs and 0.19 in for 2.5 in HDD/SSD drives — and adds internal and external cameras that record to a 64GB SD card, which makes it the choice when you have to prove destruction rather than just perform it. It is slightly taller and heavier as a result (51 in and 1,146 lbs versus 49.5 in and 1,102 lbs). The FD 87HD is a different approach entirely: it punches a hole through the drive for H-2 deformation rather than shredding it.
