Description
About the FD 87HDS
The Formax FD 87HDS is a hard drive shredder for both HDD and SSD drives. It destroys 3.5 in hard drives into random pieces 1.6 in wide and smaller, and reduces 2.5 in HDD and SSD drives into pieces 0.19 in wide and smaller — physical destruction, not just data erasure, for organizations whose policies demand it.
Two cutting chambers with metal safety shields allow continuous operation, and each chamber carries its own resettable LED counter so destruction counts are easy to log by drive type. Hardened solid steel blades do the cutting, driven by a chain-driven AC-geared motor, with an LED control panel offering Auto Reverse and Auto Stop jam protection. Sensors stop the motor if a door opens or the bin fills, and the all-metal cabinet rolls on casters with a molded plastic waste bin below.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the FD 87HDS handle SSDs?
Yes — it destroys 2.5 in HDD and SSD drives into pieces 0.19 in wide and smaller, and 3.5 in HDDs into pieces 1.6 in and smaller.
Why does it have two cutting chambers?
The dual chambers, each with a metal safety shield and its own resettable LED counter, allow continuous operation and separate counts by drive type.
How does the FD 87HDS compare to the FD 87HD and the FD 87HDS-R?
The FD 87HD punches a 0.39 in hole through a drive for H-2 deformation, while the FD 87HDS shreds drives outright to H-4. The FD 87HDS-R shreds to the same H-4 particle sizes as the FD 87HDS and adds an internal and external recording system for documenting each destruction.
