About the FD 442
The Formax FD 442 is a low-volume envelope opener that takes the letter opener out of the morning mail routine. It opens up to 200 envelopes per minute, handling mixed mail up to 4mm thick in sizes from #10s up to 10in x 13in flats. Its cutting mechanism slits one side of the envelope end-to-end, leaving contents undamaged and producing no paper scraps or sharp edges — no confetti in the mail tray, no sliced checks.
The FD 442 fits front offices, accounts payable departments, remittance desks, and small mail centers — anywhere incoming mail arrives in stacks. A photo sensor eye automatically starts and stops the feeder as envelopes are loaded, a flip-up infeed extension supports larger envelopes, and an adjustable freestanding catch tray collects opened mail. LED status indicators keep the operator informed, and the unit is compact and quiet enough to sit in an open office. In the workflow it is the first station of incoming mail processing, ahead of extraction and sorting.
