Folders

A paper folder creases and folds sheets into letter, tri-fold, or custom formats, preparing documents for envelopes or mailing without stuffing them. We stock new desktop and tabletop folders from Formax, including the FD and Atlas lines, in a range of speeds and fold styles. Every machine ships nationwide with phone support before and after the sale. Below the machines: our plain-English guide to choosing a folder, and answers to the questions we hear most.

How to choose a paper folder

The deciding spec is fold type and monthly volume. Standard letter and tri-folds are handled by nearly every machine here; z-folds, double parallel folds, and other specialty patterns are only available on specific models, so confirm your exact fold pattern before you buy.

After fold type, match the machine to your paper stock and monthly volume. Air-feed folders handle a wider range of stock weights and higher volumes than friction-fed desktop units, and touchscreen models add programmable job memory if you switch between fold patterns often. Tell us your stock weight and monthly count and we will size the feed system honestly.

If you fold and then hand-stuff envelopes today, ask whether a combination folder-inserter would save more labor than a folder alone — for many offices it does, and we will tell you honestly when it does not.

Paper folder questions

What's the difference between a friction-feed and an air-feed folder?
Friction-feed folders pull sheets using rollers and suit lighter, lower-volume jobs. Air-feed folders use suction to separate sheets, which handles a wider range of paper weights and higher monthly volumes more reliably.

Can one folder handle multiple fold types?
Most folders on this page handle standard letter and tri-folds out of the box; z-folds and other specialty patterns depend on the specific model. Tell us your fold pattern and we will confirm before you buy.

Should I get a folder or a folder-inserter?
If you are folding sheets and then hand-stuffing envelopes, a folder-inserter often saves more labor than a standalone folder. If you only need folded output for other purposes, a folder alone is the simpler, lower-cost choice. Tell us your workflow and we'll size it honestly.

What paper weights can these folders handle?
It varies by model — generally desktop friction-feed units handle standard office paper weights, while air-feed models handle a wider range including heavier stock. Tell us your paper weight and we will confirm compatibility.

Is delivery and installation available on these machines?
Nationwide delivery, installation and operator training are available on any machine we sell, quoted per machine and location.
