Feeders

A feeder separates and delivers sheets, cards, or envelopes one at a time into a printer, inserter, or production line, and the right type depends on the media you are running. AFM stocks friction, vacuum, and specialty feeders, including new and refurbished units, that attach to a range of printers and production equipment. Every feeder ships nationwide, and our phone team can help confirm compatibility before you order. Below the machines: our plain-English guide to choosing a feeder, and answers to the questions we hear most.

How to choose a feeder

The deciding spec is your media: friction feeders generally suit standard paper stock, while vacuum feeders handle a wider range of stock, including heavier or slicker material, more reliably at speed. Shingle-loading feeders are built for stacking and feeding sheets in an overlapping pattern for continuous runs.

Compatibility with your existing printer or line matters as much as feeder type. Confirm the feeder is built for, or can be adapted to, the specific printer or machine you are feeding, since mounting and speed matching vary by brand and model.

Volume and run length matter too: features like auto-loading, denesting, or acceleration tables reduce operator attention on longer runs, but add cost and complexity that a lower-volume mailer may not need.

Our feeder lineup includes Accufast, Walco, Straight Shooter, Formax add-on feeders, and RENA feeders, covering friction, vacuum, and specialty feeding needs.

Feeder questions

What is the difference between a friction feeder and a vacuum feeder?
A friction feeder separates sheets using rollers and generally suits standard paper stock. A vacuum feeder uses suction to separate and control sheets and generally handles a wider range of stock, including heavier or coated media, more reliably.

Will a feeder work with my existing printer?
Many feeders are built for, or can be configured for, specific printer brands and models. Tell us what you are running and we will confirm fit before you buy.

What is a shingle-loading feeder?
It feeds sheets from an overlapping, or shingled, stack, which generally supports continuous high-speed runs without the operator restacking media as often.

Do I need an auto-loader or acceleration table?
These options generally help on longer, higher-volume runs by reducing manual restacking or matching feed speed to the next stage of your line. Lower-volume mailers often do not need them.
