How to choose an envelope printer

The deciding spec is volume: how many pieces you run in a normal week, and in your busiest week. Desktop printers suit lower volumes and simple monochrome addressing; step up to a mid-range or production model once you are printing daily in the thousands, since duty cycle and print head life are built for sustained runs, not desktop ones.

Color matters next. A monochrome printer is enough for compliance mail and invoices, but if you are trying to lift response rates on marketing pieces, a full-color inkjet head lets you print a logo, a highlight color, or a variable graphic address-side, without a separate printing step.

Finally, check your media: envelope size, thickness, and any inserts already in the envelope can all affect which feeder and print carriage you need. Tell us your piece size and stock, and we will confirm fit before you buy.

Brands we carry

Our envelope and address printer lineup includes Rena, Formax, Quadient, Accufast, Pitney Bowes, Hasler, Neopost, Secap, Walco, and more, spanning entry-level desktop units to full production floor systems.

Envelope printer questions

What is the difference between an address printer and an envelope printer?
The terms are generally used interchangeably in this category; both describe machines that inkjet addresses, barcodes, or graphics directly onto envelopes or postcards rather than printing labels.

Do I need a color printer or is monochrome enough?
Monochrome is generally sufficient for statements, invoices, and compliance mail. Color helps mailings that depend on visual response, such as marketing postcards, though it is not required for most business mail.

Can these printers handle different envelope sizes?
Most models handle a range of envelope and postcard sizes, but maximum thickness and print area vary by machine. Tell us your piece dimensions and stock and we will confirm the right fit.

What is the difference between entry-level and production models?
Entry-level printers are built for lower daily volumes and simpler setups. Production and high-end models are built for sustained, high-speed runs and generally offer more feeding and finishing options.

Do you sell used or refurbished envelope printers?
Yes, our inventory generally includes a mix of new, used, and refurbished printers. Call us and we will size the right condition and machine to your budget and volume honestly.
